Technical Analysis

CVE-2025-65200 describes a code execution vulnerability in localstack 4.9.2. Attackers can supply a specially crafted URL to the templateURL parameter of the _localstack/cloudformation/deploy endpoint. When localstack fetches and processes the content from this URL, it executes the hosted content inside the docker container, leading to arbitrary code execution.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an attacker to execute arbitrary code within the docker container running localstack, potentially compromising the container environment and any resources accessible from it.

Mitigation Recommendations

No patch or official fix information is provided. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, avoid exposing the _localstack/cloudformation/deploy endpoint to untrusted users and do not pass untrusted URLs to the templateURL parameter.
