An official fix is available and should be applied. The Ubuntu security advisory USN-8029-1 confirms that this and other Linux kernel vulnerabilities have been addressed in updated kernel packages. Systems running affected kernel versions should be updated to the fixed versions as provided by their vendor.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's JFS filesystem transaction manager caused a crash when operating on read-only filesystems due to an uninitialized waitqueue. The issue occurred because the initialization loop skipped the first transaction block, leading to improper handling when ending a transaction with tid=0. This flaw triggers a lockdep warning and system crash. The vulnerability has been fixed by properly initializing all transaction blocks' waitqueues during initialization.
