An official fix is available that disables the problematic huge page optimization on s390 architecture. Users should apply the updated Linux kernel versions that include this fix. The vendor advisory confirms that this issue has been resolved in security updates. No additional mitigation steps are required beyond applying the patch.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's s390 architecture related to the optimization of huge page virtual memory mappings (ARCH_WANT_OPTIMIZE_HUGETLB_VMEMMAP) has been resolved. Enabling this optimization on s390 leads to kernel crashes due to improper handling of page table entries without flushing TLB entries. The issue arises because s390 architecture requires special instructions to replace active page table entries, which the current code does not support. The fix disables this optimization to prevent crashes and data corruption.
