AI-suggested

A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. The Ubuntu security advisory USN-8029-1 provides updates that address this and other kernel vulnerabilities. Applying the official kernel updates from the vendor is the recommended remediation.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's nfs4_setup_readdir() function involved insufficient locking when dereferencing ->d_parent->d_inode. This race condition could theoretically cause a kernel oops, but exploitation on real hardware is unlikely and would be difficult even in virtualized environments. The issue is addressed by adding proper locking around the relevant code. The vulnerability is fixed in updated Linux kernel versions.
