A patch is available and should be applied to affected linux-hwe-edge kernel versions. The vendor advisory confirms the issue is fixed in updated kernel releases. Users should update to the fixed kernel versions to remediate this memory leak vulnerability.
Description
A memory leak vulnerability in the Linux kernel's CIFS module was fixed. The issue occurred in the smb3_fs_context_parse_param error path where allocated memory for source strings was not properly freed, leading to a leak. This was addressed by adding proper cleanup and nullifying pointers to prevent double-free. The vulnerability was detected by syzbot and affects specific linux-hwe-edge kernel versions prior to 6.8.0-1049.49 through 6.8.0-1052.55~22.04.1. A patch is available to resolve this issue.
