A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. The Ubuntu advisory USN-8094-1 confirms the fix. Systems running affected versions should upgrade to a fixed kernel version to prevent exploitation.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's rtl8723bs staging driver caused an out-of-bounds read during parsing of the Extended Supported Rates (ESR) Information Element in beacon frames. This flaw could be triggered by a malformed beacon frame with an ESR IE at the buffer's end, potentially causing a kernel panic. The issue was fixed by adding boundary checks to ensure safe access within the frame buffer.
