AI-suggested
A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. The vendor advisory from Ubuntu confirms that this issue has been fixed in updated kernel releases. Users should update their Linux kernel to versions later than the affected 5.15.x versions listed to remediate this vulnerability.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's BFS filesystem was resolved where corrupted S_IFMT bits in inode mode or attributes fields loaded from disk could lead to incorrect file type reconstruction. The BFS filesystem only supports regular files and the root directory, and the vulnerability arises from improper handling of the upper bits of the mode field and attributes verification. This flaw was fixed in Linux kernel versions after certain 5.15.x releases. The issue is rated medium severity and no known exploits are reported in the wild.
