AI-suggested
Official patches addressing this vulnerability are available and should be applied promptly. The vendor advisory from Ubuntu (USN-8094-1) confirms fixes in updated Linux kernel versions. Systems running affected kernel versions should upgrade to patched releases to mitigate the risk. No additional mitigation steps are indicated beyond applying the official fixes.
Description
A use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's Ceph client library (libceph) was resolved. The flaw occurs in the have_mon_and_osd_map() function due to a race condition where the wait loop accesses freed memory without proper locking. This can lead to kernel memory corruption. The issue was fixed by rewriting the wait loop to acquire appropriate locks and improving timeout handling. The vulnerability affects certain Linux kernel versions prior to specified patched releases. A high-severity CVSS score of 9.8 is assigned. Official patches are available from the vendor.
