AI-suggested

A vendor-provided patch is available and should be applied to affected systems. The issue is fixed in Linux kernel versions 6.8.0-1049.49~22.04.1 and later. Users should update their Linux kernel to the patched versions as per the Ubuntu security notice USN-8029-1. No additional mitigations are required beyond applying the official fix.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's PA-RISC architecture unwinder caused crashes due to unaligned memory access. The unwinder attempted to read stack frames using unaligned pointers, triggering an unalignment trap that led to spinlock recursion and a deadlock. This issue has been fixed by adding alignment checks before memory access. The vulnerability affects specific Linux kernel versions prior to 6.8.0-1049.49~22.04.1, 6.8.0-1050.53~22.04.1, 6.8.0-1051.57~22.04.1, 6.8.0-1052.55~22.04.1, and 6.8.0-106.106~22.04.1. A patch is available from the vendor as part of a broader Linux kernel security update.
