Apply the official Linux kernel updates that include the fix for this vulnerability. The vendor advisory (Ubuntu USN-8094-1) confirms that patches are available for affected linux-hwe-edge kernel versions. No additional mitigation steps are required beyond applying the official updates.
Description
A buffer overflow vulnerability in the Linux kernel ALSA dice driver was fixed. The function detect_stream_formats() did not validate the stream_count value read from a FireWire device, allowing out-of-bounds writes if a malicious device provided an excessive stream_count. This issue was resolved by adding proper validation for both TX and RX stream counts. The vulnerability affects certain versions of the linux-hwe-edge kernel prior to specific patch releases. A fix is available as part of official Linux kernel updates.
