A patch is available and should be applied. The vulnerability has been fixed in Linux kernel versions 6.17.0-1012.12~24.04.1 and later. Users should update to these or newer kernel versions and reboot to apply the fix. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the official update.
Description
A NULL pointer dereference vulnerability was identified and fixed in the Linux kernel's VXLAN network code in the function vxlan_xmit_one. The issue arises because sock4 and sock6 pointers are not guaranteed to be non-NULL, for example, if the network interface is brought down, potentially causing a kernel crash. The vulnerability was introduced due to missing pointer validity checks after code changes in version 6.7. Fixes have been bundled and released to address this issue.
