AI-suggested
A patch is available and has been released by Ubuntu in their security updates for the linux-hwe-edge kernel. Users should apply the official kernel updates to versions 6.17.0-1009.9~24.04.2 or later as provided by their distribution. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
Description
A use-after-free vulnerability was identified and fixed in the Linux kernel's CoreSight ETR buffer handling when enabled in CS_MODE_SYSFS mode. The flaw occurs if the buffer size is changed and re-enabled, causing the ETR buffer pointer to reference freed memory, leading to a use-after-free condition. This issue has been resolved by updating the buffer management logic to avoid freeing memory still in use. The vulnerability affects multiple linux-hwe-edge kernel versions prior to 6.17.0-1009.9~24.04.2, 6.17.0-1010.10~24.04.1, 6.17.0-1009.9~24.04.3, 6.17.0-19.19~24.04.2, and 6.17.0-1018.18. A patch is available and included in official Ubuntu security updates.
