An official fix is available and has been released in updated Linux kernel versions. Users should update to the patched kernel versions as indicated by their distribution. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the official patch.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's BPF subsystem caused invalid memory access when update_effective_progs failed and the program stats pointer was accessed in a softirq context. This issue was fixed by skipping stats updates when the stats pointer is NULL. The flaw could lead to kernel memory access errors. Multiple Linux kernel versions prior to 6.8.0-1052.55~22.04.1 and similar are affected. A patch is available and has been incorporated into updated kernel releases.
