A patch is available and has been released to fix this vulnerability. Users should update their Linux kernel to the fixed versions as provided by their distribution vendor. The Ubuntu advisory USN-8096-1 confirms that this issue is addressed in updated kernel packages. No additional mitigation steps are required beyond applying the official update.
Description
A NULL pointer dereference vulnerability in the Linux kernel's applicom character device driver (ac_ioctl function) has been fixed. The flaw occurs when a specific command (cmd=6) causes the function to access a potentially NULL RamIO pointer without proper validation, leading to a NULL pointer dereference. This issue was discovered by Atuin - Automated Vulnerability Discovery Engine and affects certain Linux kernel versions prior to the fixed releases. The vulnerability has been addressed by skipping the problematic memory access when cmd is 6, as this command does not require board-specific context.
