AI-suggested
A patch is available and should be applied promptly. The vulnerability is fixed in Linux kernel versions 6.8.0-1051.51~22.04.1 and later. Users should update their Linux kernel to a fixed version as provided by their distribution vendor. After applying the update, a system reboot is required to complete remediation. No additional mitigations are required beyond applying the official fix.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's ksmbd component was fixed by correcting buffer validation in the smb2_set_ea function. The issue involved improper validation of Extended Attributes (EA) buffer size due to omission of the null terminator byte in the EA Name length calculation. This flaw could lead to a buffer validation error. The vulnerability has been addressed in Linux kernel versions 6.8.0 and later. A patch is available and should be applied to affected systems.
