What to do
AI-suggested
- Immediately restrict access to the router's management interface by limiting it to trusted internal networks and disabling remote management where possible.
- Implement network segmentation to isolate critical systems from consumer-grade routers like the Tenda AX-1806.
- Monitor network traffic for unusual or malformed requests targeting router management services, especially those involving time synchronization or timezone settings.
- Educate users and IT staff about the vulnerability and encourage vigilance for signs of router instability or unexpected reboots.
- Regularly check the vendor's website and security advisories for firmware updates or patches addressing this vulnerability and apply them promptly once available.
- Consider replacing vulnerable devices with models from vendors with stronger security track records if timely patches are not forthcoming.
- Employ network-level DoS protection mechanisms to mitigate the impact of potential attacks exploiting this vulnerability.
- Maintain up-to-date backups of router configurations to enable rapid recovery after a DoS event.
Description
Tenda AX-1806 v1.0.0.1 was discovered to contain a stack overflow in the timeZone parameter of the fromSetSysTime function. This vulnerability allows attackers to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) via a crafted request.
