A fix is available and has been applied in multiple Linux kernel commits. Users and administrators should update their Linux kernel to a version that includes these fixes to mitigate the vulnerability. Since this is a kernel-level flaw, patching the kernel is the recommended and effective mitigation.
Description
CVE-2025-71093 is a critical out-of-bounds read vulnerability in the Linux kernel's e1000 network driver. The flaw occurs in the function e1000_tbi_should_accept() when it reads the last byte of a frame without validating the frame length, potentially accessing memory beyond the RX buffer. This can lead to reading unrelated slab objects and cause kernel memory corruption. The issue is triggered from the NAPI receive path and has been fixed by adding checks to reject frames with zero length or lengths exceeding the RX buffer size.
