AI-suggested
An official fix is available in the Linux kernel versions that address this issue. Users should update to patched kernel versions to benefit from the auto-fix for incorrect num_connectors capability handling. The underlying firmware will also be fixed by vendors, but the kernel patch ensures systems can boot correctly even if buggy firmware is present. No additional mitigation steps are required beyond applying the kernel update.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's USB Type-C UCSI driver was addressed to handle an incorrect num_connectors capability field. The UCSI specification states that the num_connectors field is 7 bits, with the 8th bit reserved and set to zero. Some buggy firmware incorrectly sets this bit, which can cause system boot failures. The kernel patch flags such firmware behavior and auto-corrects the value to ensure proper system boot. This issue was found on Lenovo P1 G8 during Linux enablement. The firmware will be fixed, but the kernel fix mitigates impact on unsupported platforms.
