A fix is available in the Linux kernel commits b282b2a9eed848587c1348abdd5d83fa346a2743 and 35ddf66c65eff93fff91406756ba273600bf61a3. Users should upgrade to a patched kernel version to resolve this issue. No other mitigation or workaround is indicated.

Description

CVE-2025-71128 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel affecting the ERSPAN handling in GRE tunnels. The issue arises from the failure to initialize the options_len field before referencing the options flexible array member in the ip_tunnel_info struct. This leads to a buffer overflow detected by GCC's FORTIFY_SOURCE protections, causing a kernel panic when processing ERSPAN traffic. The flaw is fixed in specific Linux kernel commits.
