The vulnerability has been fixed in multiple Linux kernel commits. Users should update their Linux kernel to a version including these fixes. Since this is not a cloud service, manual patching is required. Patch status is confirmed by fixed commits. No additional mitigation steps are indicated.
Description
CVE-2025-71161 is a high-severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's dm-verity feature related to recursive forward error correction (FEC). The recursive correction mechanism can cause a denial-of-service by triggering excessive recursive calls, leading to a process hang. Additionally, the recursive correction does not function correctly due to shared buffer overwrites during recursion. This flaw affects Linux kernel version 4.5 and has been fixed in subsequent commits.
