Technical Analysis

CVE-2025-71326 is an unquoted search path vulnerability in the SecureLine service of AVAST Antivirus 25.11. The unquoted service path allows local attackers to place malicious executables in locations that the service path resolves to, resulting in execution of code with elevated SYSTEM privileges. This vulnerability requires local access and does not require user interaction. It has a high CVSS 4.0 score of 8.5, reflecting its potential for privilege escalation with low attack complexity.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows a local non-privileged user to execute arbitrary code with SYSTEM privileges, potentially leading to full system compromise. This elevates the attacker's permissions beyond their initial access level, posing a significant security risk on affected systems.

Mitigation Recommendations

No official patch or remediation has been confirmed as of the provided data. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict local user access and monitor for suspicious activity related to the SecureLine service executable path.
