Published: 10/20/2026 (10/20/2026, 15:40:22 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: librdf
Product: Raptor RDF Syntax Library

Description

Raptor RDF Syntax Library from 2.0.15 through 2.0.16 contains a heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability in raptor_new_term_from_counted_literal() caused by truncating language tag length to an unsigned char. Attackers can supply Turtle, TriG, N-Triples or N-Quads documents with language tags of 256 bytes or longer to corrupt heap memory, crash applications, and possibly execute code.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2025-71436 is a heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability in the Raptor RDF Syntax Library affecting versions 2.0.15 through 2.0.16. The flaw is in the raptor_new_term_from_counted_literal() function, where the language tag length is truncated to an unsigned char, leading to improper handling of language tags of 256 bytes or more. This vulnerability can be triggered by specially crafted Turtle, TriG, N-Triples, or N-Quads documents, resulting in heap memory corruption, application crashes, and potential remote code execution.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation can corrupt heap memory, crash affected applications, and may allow attackers to execute arbitrary code. The vulnerability is remotely exploitable without privileges or user interaction, but requires user interface (UI) interaction. The overall impact is high severity.

Mitigation Recommendations

No explicit patch or remediation is stated in the provided data. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, avoid processing untrusted RDF documents with language tags of 256 bytes or longer.
