VulnerabilityCVE-2025-9291cvecve-2025-9291cwe-295
Published: 08/03/2026 (08/03/2026, 17:48:14 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: TP-Link Systems Inc.
Product: Omada Gateways

Description

A certification validation weakness exists in communication between affected Omada devices and cloud controllers. Certificate identity verification does not adequately validate that a presented certificate corresponds to the expected cloud controller hostname, which may allow certificate validation protections to be bypassed under specific conditions. Successful exploitation may allow interception or modification of communication between affected devices and cloud controllers.

Technical Analysis

This vulnerability (CVE-2025-9291) concerns a certificate validation weakness in the communication channel between TP-Link Omada Gateways and their cloud controllers. Specifically, the devices fail to properly verify that the certificate presented during TLS communication corresponds to the expected cloud controller hostname. This improper validation (CWE-295) could allow an attacker to bypass protections designed to ensure secure communication, leading to possible interception or modification of data exchanged between the affected devices and cloud controllers. The CVSS 4.0 base score is 7.7, indicating high severity, with network attack vector, high attack complexity, no privileges required, and user interaction needed.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation may allow an attacker to intercept or modify the communication between Omada Gateways and cloud controllers by bypassing certificate validation protections. This could compromise confidentiality and integrity of data transmitted over this channel.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. No official fix or temporary mitigation has been documented at this time. Users should monitor TP-Link advisories for updates and apply any forthcoming patches promptly.
