Technical Analysis

The Broadstreet plugin for WordPress suffers from an improper authorization vulnerability (CWE-285) because it lacks a capability check on the create_advertiser AJAX action. This allows any authenticated user with at least Subscriber privileges to create advertisers, which should normally require higher permissions. The issue affects all versions up to 1.53.1. The CVSS 3.1 base score is 4.3, reflecting low complexity and no user interaction required, but limited impact confined to integrity. No patch or official fix has been documented in the vendor advisory or other sources.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability enables authenticated users with Subscriber-level access or above to create advertisers within the Broadstreet plugin, potentially leading to unauthorized modification of advertiser data. There is no impact on confidentiality or availability. No known exploits are reported in the wild.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is released, restrict user roles to trusted individuals and monitor for unauthorized advertiser creation. Avoid granting Subscriber or higher privileges to untrusted users.
