Technical Analysis

This vulnerability in Android 17 involves a logic error in the setAllowedCarriers method within PhoneInterfaceManager.java. The flaw could permit a local attacker to escalate privileges by bypassing carrier restrictions without needing extra execution privileges or user interaction. The CVSS 4.0 base score is 10.0, reflecting the critical nature of the issue with network attack vector, no privileges required, no user interaction, and high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows a local attacker to escalate privileges on the affected Android device by disabling carrier restrictions. This could compromise device security and potentially enable unauthorized actions at a high privilege level. No additional execution privileges or user interaction are needed, increasing the risk of exploitation.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. No official fix or temporary workaround has been documented at this time.
