Technical Analysis

This vulnerability involves a logic error in the resumeConfigurationDispatch method within ActivityRecord.java in Google Android. The flaw can trigger a background application launch (BAL) that enables a local attacker to escalate privileges without needing extra execution rights or user interaction. The CVSS 3.1 base score is 7.8, reflecting high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The affected version explicitly identified is Android 16-qpr2. There is no vendor advisory or patch information available at this time.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows a local attacker with limited privileges to escalate their privileges on the affected Android device. This can lead to full compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the system. No user interaction is required, increasing the risk of silent exploitation. However, there are no known exploits in the wild currently.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is released, monitor for updates from Google regarding this vulnerability. No temporary or official fixes are documented at this time.
