Vendor/Project: canva
Product: affinity

Description

Affinity by Canva versions before 3.3.1 contain a heap buffer over-read vulnerability due to improper handling of incomplete UTF-8 sequences in document text parsing. This flaw can cause information disclosure of adjacent heap memory or application crashes when opening crafted documents. The vulnerability has a low CVSS score of 3.6 and requires local attack vector with high attack complexity and user interaction.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-101094 is a heap buffer over-read vulnerability in Affinity by Canva prior to version 3.3.1. The application does not correctly handle incomplete UTF-8 character sequences when parsing text in Affinity document files. An attacker can craft a malicious document that, when opened, may cause the application to read beyond the intended buffer, potentially disclosing adjacent heap memory contents or causing a crash. The vulnerability has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 3.6, indicating low severity, with an attack vector requiring local access, high complexity, no privileges, and user interaction.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows a local attacker to cause information disclosure of adjacent heap memory or an application crash by opening a specially crafted Affinity document. The impact on confidentiality is limited (partial disclosure), integrity is not affected, and availability impact is low due to possible crashes.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in Affinity by Canva version 3.3.1 released in October 2026. Users should upgrade to version 3.3.1 or later to remediate this vulnerability. No other mitigation guidance is provided.
