Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: SICK AG
Product: Sick_Safetyscanners_Base CPP Driver

Description

A remote attacker may send a specially crafted network packet that causes the affected application to perform an out-of-bounds memory read due to insufficient validation of packet length. This may result in an application crash and a denial-of-service condition.

Technical Analysis

This vulnerability (CWE-125) allows a remote attacker to cause an out-of-bounds read in the Sick_Safetyscanners_Base CPP Driver by sending a specially crafted network packet. The root cause is insufficient validation of the packet length, which leads to reading memory beyond the intended buffer. The consequence is an application crash and denial of service. The CVSS v3.1 base score is 7.5, reflecting network attack vector, low attack complexity, no privileges required, no user interaction, unchanged scope, no confidentiality or integrity impact, and high availability impact.

Potential Impact

An attacker can remotely cause the affected application to crash, resulting in denial of service. There is no impact on confidentiality or integrity. No known exploits are reported in the wild at this time.

Mitigation Recommendations

No patch or remediation information is provided. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, consider limiting network exposure of the affected service to trusted sources to reduce risk.
