CVE-2026-101951: CWE-1288 Improper Validation of Consistency within Input in Juniper Networks Junos OS
Description
An Improper Validation of Consistency within Input vulnerability in the routing protocol daemon (rpd) of Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved allows a network-adjacent configured BGP peer to cause a denial of service by sending a specifically malformed BGP MCAST-TREE update and this NLRI is then attempted to be readvertised.

Technical Analysis
This vulnerability (CWE-1288) exists in the routing protocol daemon (rpd) of Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved. It allows a network-adjacent configured BGP peer to cause a denial of service by sending a specially crafted BGP MCAST-TREE update. The malformed NLRI in this update is then processed and attempted to be readvertised, leading to a crash or service disruption. The CVSS 3.1 score is 7.5 (high severity) with network attack vector, low attack complexity, no privileges required, no user interaction, and impact limited to availability.
Potential Impact
Successful exploitation results in denial of service (DoS) of the routing protocol daemon, disrupting network routing functions. There is no confidentiality or integrity impact reported. The attack can be performed remotely by a network-adjacent configured BGP peer without authentication or user interaction.
Mitigation Recommendations
Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. No official fix or patch links are provided in the available data. Until a patch is available, restrict or monitor BGP peer configurations to trusted entities to reduce exposure.
