Technical Analysis

This vulnerability (CVE-2026-101986) in Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved's J-Web interface allows an unauthenticated attacker to bypass authentication mechanisms and execute CGI content with elevated privileges through a specially crafted HTTP request. The flaw is categorized under CWE-287 (Improper Authentication) and affects a broad range of versions across multiple release trains, including both standard and evolved versions. The CVSS 3.1 base score is 9.8, reflecting network attack vector, low attack complexity, no privileges required, no user interaction, and high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Potential Impact

An unauthenticated attacker can bypass J-Web authentication and execute commands with elevated privileges, potentially leading to full compromise of the affected device. The impact includes complete loss of confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the system through the J-Web interface.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict network access to the J-Web interface to trusted administrators only and monitor for suspicious HTTP requests targeting the J-Web interface.
