CVE-2026-102021: CWE-476 NULL Pointer Dereference in Juniper Networks Junos OS
Description
A NULL Pointer Dereference vulnerability in the routing protocol daemon (rpd) of Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved allows an adjacent network attacker to cause a denial of service via a crafted RSVP packet when MPLS-TE RSVP processing is enabled. The condition can terminate rpd and disrupt routing protocol sessions.

Technical Analysis
This vulnerability involves a NULL Pointer Dereference in the rpd component of Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved. When MPLS-TE RSVP processing is enabled, an attacker on an adjacent network can send a specially crafted RSVP packet that triggers the NULL pointer dereference, causing the rpd process to crash. The termination of rpd disrupts routing protocol sessions, leading to denial of service. The CVSS 3.1 base score is 6.5, indicating a medium severity impact with no confidentiality or integrity loss but high availability impact. The vulnerability affects multiple versions of Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved as specified.
Potential Impact
Successful exploitation causes the routing protocol daemon (rpd) to terminate, disrupting routing protocol sessions and resulting in denial of service. There is no impact on confidentiality or integrity. The availability impact is high due to potential routing disruptions.
Mitigation Recommendations
Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, consider disabling MPLS-TE RSVP processing if feasible to mitigate exposure. Monitor vendor communications for patches or updates addressing this vulnerability.
