CVE-2026-102026: CWE-664 Improper Control of a Resource Through its Lifetime in Juniper Networks Junos OS
Description
CVE-2026-102026 is a high-severity vulnerability in Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved affecting the routing protocol daemon (rpd). It allows an adjacent eBGP peer to cause a crash of the routing daemon via a BGP route update when RIB sharding is enabled. This improper control of a resource through its lifetime can lead to denial of service conditions.

Technical Analysis
This vulnerability (CWE-664) exists in the routing protocol daemon (rpd) of Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved. When RIB sharding is enabled, an adjacent eBGP peer can send a crafted BGP route update that causes the routing daemon to crash. The issue stems from improper control of a resource through its lifetime, leading to a denial of service. The CVSS 3.1 base score is 7.5, indicating high severity with network attack vector, low attack complexity, no privileges or user interaction required, and impact limited to availability.
Potential Impact
An attacker with adjacency as an eBGP peer can cause the routing daemon to crash, resulting in denial of service. There is no confidentiality or integrity impact reported. This can disrupt routing operations on affected devices.
Mitigation Recommendations
Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. No official fix or patch links are provided in the available data. Until a patch is available, consider disabling RIB sharding if feasible or restricting adjacency to trusted peers to reduce exposure.
