Technical Analysis

This vulnerability (CVE-2026-102034) involves a reachable assertion failure in the l2ald daemon component of Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved. An attacker who has access to a configured ICCP peer can exploit this by sending a malformed MC-LAG message, triggering an assertion that leads to a denial of service condition. The vulnerability is tracked under CWE-617 (Reachable Assertion). The CVSS v3.1 base score is 6.5, reflecting a medium severity with attack vector as adjacent network, low attack complexity, no privileges required, no user interaction, and impact limited to availability.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation causes denial of service by crashing or disrupting the l2ald daemon, impacting availability of affected Junos OS devices. There is no impact on confidentiality or integrity. The attacker must have access to a configured ICCP peer, limiting the attack surface to trusted network segments.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. No official fix or patch links are provided in the available data. Until a patch is available, restricting access to ICCP peers and monitoring for malformed MC-LAG messages may reduce risk.
