CVE-2026-102179: CWE-787 Out-of-bounds Write in Juniper Networks Junos OS
Description
An Out-of-bounds Write vulnerability in the routing protocol daemon (rpd) of Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved allows an attacker with access to a configured BGP EVPN peer to cause a denial of service via BGP EVPN route processing when the l2vpn-evpn RIB telemetry sensor is subscribed. Successful exploitation can crash rpd and interrupt routing protocols until the daemon restarts and reconverges.

Technical Analysis
This vulnerability (CVE-2026-102179) involves an out-of-bounds write in the rpd component of Juniper Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved. An attacker with access to a configured BGP EVPN peer can trigger a crash of the rpd daemon during BGP EVPN route processing when the l2vpn-evpn RIB telemetry sensor is subscribed. The crash causes denial of service by interrupting routing protocols until the daemon restarts and reconverges. The issue is tracked under CWE-787 and has a CVSS v3.1 base score of 7.5 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H).
Potential Impact
Successful exploitation results in a denial of service condition by crashing the rpd daemon, which interrupts routing protocols until the daemon restarts and reconverges. There is no impact on confidentiality or integrity, but availability is severely affected.
Mitigation Recommendations
Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. No official fix or patch links are provided in the available data. Until a patch is available, restrict access to configured BGP EVPN peers and consider disabling the l2vpn-evpn RIB telemetry sensor subscription if feasible to reduce exposure.
