Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: TP-Link System Inc.
Product: Tapo S505 v1.6

Description

Affected Tapo device firmware stores device-specific cryptographic material in plaintext within nonvolatile storage. An attacker with physical access to an affected device can recover this sensitive material from the firmware.  Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in the disclosure of device-specific cryptographic material and could, under certain conditions, increase the risk of unauthorized access to related protected information or communications.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-102368 describes a vulnerability in TP-Link System Inc.'s Tapo S505 device firmware version 1.6 where device-specific cryptographic material is stored in cleartext in nonvolatile storage. An attacker with physical access can recover this sensitive data from the firmware. This exposure may facilitate unauthorized access to protected information or communications related to the device.

Potential Impact

Disclosure of device-specific cryptographic material due to cleartext storage can compromise the confidentiality of cryptographic keys. This may increase the risk of unauthorized access to protected information or communications associated with the device. However, exploitation requires physical access to the device, limiting remote attack vectors.

Mitigation Recommendations

No patch or official fix information is provided. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict physical access to affected devices to mitigate risk.
