CVE-2026-102461: Vulnerability in Eclipse Foundation Eclipse Vert.x
Description
CVE-2026-102461 is a high-severity vulnerability in Eclipse Vert.x affecting the vertx-json-schema component and dependent modules. The issue arises from the uniqueItems keyword validation performing an O(n²) pairwise comparison without short-circuiting or size limits. This allows a remote unauthenticated attacker to submit a moderately-sized JSON array that consumes excessive CPU resources, causing a denial of service.

Technical Analysis
Eclipse Vert.x versions 4.0.0 through 4.5.34, 5.0.0 through 5.0.12, 5.1.0 through 5.1.9, and exactly 5.2.0 contain a vulnerability in the vertx-json-schema component. The uniqueItems keyword validation uses an inefficient O(n²) algorithm with no short-circuit or size limit, enabling a remote unauthenticated attacker to trigger high CPU consumption by submitting a JSON array of moderate size. This results in denial of service. The vulnerability also affects Vert.x modules that depend on vertx-json-schema, including vertx-web-openapi-router, vertx-web-validation, and vertx-openapi.
Potential Impact
A remote unauthenticated attacker can cause denial of service by submitting specially crafted JSON arrays that exploit the inefficient uniqueItems validation logic, leading to disproportionate CPU usage and service disruption.
