CVE-2026-102463: Vulnerability in Eclipse Foundation Eclipse Vert.x
Description
In Eclipse Vert.x versions [4.0.0, 4.5.34] or [5.0.0,5.0.12] or [5.1.0,5.1.9] or [5.2.0, 5.2.0], the binary array decoder in vertx-pg-client (DataTypeCodec.binaryDecodeArray) allocates a Java array sized by a server-declared 32-bit dimension count with no upper bound. A malicious or compromised PostgreSQL server, or an on-path attacker intercepting an unencrypted connection, can send a crafted DataRow message with an excessively large array dimension value, causing the client to attempt a multi-gigabyte heap allocation and crash with an OutOfMemoryError. The impacted component is io.vertx:vertx-pg-client.

Technical Analysis
The vulnerability in Eclipse Vert.x's vertx-pg-client (DataTypeCodec.binaryDecodeArray) allows a malicious or compromised PostgreSQL server or an on-path attacker to trigger an OutOfMemoryError by sending a DataRow message with an excessively large array dimension count. This count is used to allocate a Java array without an upper bound, leading to potentially multi-gigabyte heap allocations and client crashes. The affected versions are >=4.0.0 <=4.5.34, >=5.0.0 <=5.0.12, >=5.1.0 <=5.1.9, and =5.2.0.
Potential Impact
Exploitation of this vulnerability results in the Eclipse Vert.x client crashing due to an OutOfMemoryError caused by unbounded memory allocation. This can lead to denial of service conditions for applications using the affected vertx-pg-client versions when communicating with a malicious or compromised PostgreSQL server or when an attacker intercepts unencrypted connections.
Mitigation Recommendations
Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, avoid connecting to untrusted PostgreSQL servers and use encrypted connections (e.g., TLS) to prevent interception and manipulation of DataRow messages.
