Technical Analysis

This vulnerability in Moodle involves improper neutralization of special elements used in SQL commands, specifically allowing an authenticated attacker with access to the question bank web service to inject SQL code via unsanitized input. This can lead to unauthorized disclosure or modification of sensitive database information. The CVSS 3.1 vector indicates network attack vector, low attack complexity, high privileges required, no user interaction, unchanged scope, high confidentiality impact, low integrity impact, and no availability impact.

Potential Impact

An attacker who is authenticated and has access to the question bank web service can exploit this vulnerability to view, alter, or delete sensitive data in the Moodle database. This compromises confidentiality and partially affects integrity but does not impact availability.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory at https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-102578 for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict access to the question bank web service to trusted users only and monitor for suspicious activity related to database queries.
