CVE-2026-102603: CWE-620: Unverified Password Change in gotify server
Description
Gotify server versions prior to 3.0.0 contain a vulnerability in the password change endpoint that allows an attacker with a valid client token to change the user's password without providing the current password or additional authentication. This flaw enables account takeover by resetting the password, potentially requiring administrator or database intervention to recover the account. The issue is resolved in version 3.0.0.

Technical Analysis
CVE-2026-102603 describes an unverified password change vulnerability (CWE-620) in Gotify server before version 3.0.0. The password change endpoint (POST /current/user/password) accepts a valid client token but does not require the current password or elevated authentication. An attacker who obtains a client token can reset the password for the associated user account, effectively taking control of the account's authentication. This vulnerability is fixed in Gotify server version 3.0.0.
Potential Impact
An attacker with a valid client token can change the password of the associated user account without knowing the current password, leading to account takeover. This compromises user authentication and may require administrative or direct database intervention to restore account access. The CVSS 4.0 score is 5.3 (medium severity), reflecting network attack vector, low attack complexity, and limited privileges required.
Mitigation Recommendations
Upgrade Gotify server to version 3.0.0 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigation is required as the fix addresses the authentication bypass in the password change endpoint.
