Vendor/Project: steveukx
Product: git-js

Description

CVE-2026-102827 is a command injection vulnerability in the steveukx git-js library prior to version 4.0.0. The issue arises because the default blockUnsafeOperationsPlugin does not properly handle unambiguous long-option abbreviations in Git commands, allowing attacker-controlled push arguments to bypass security checks. This can lead to arbitrary command execution via git push operations. The vulnerability is fixed in version 4.0.0.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in steveukx git-js (simple-git) versions before 4.0.0 is due to improper neutralization of special elements used in commands (CWE-77). The default blockUnsafeOperationsPlugin compares parsed option names with literal dangerous option spellings, but Git accepts unambiguous long-option abbreviations. This discrepancy allows attacker-influenced push arguments, such as abbreviated --receive-pack or --exec forms, to bypass detectVulnerableFlags. Consequently, an attacker can cause Git to invoke arbitrary commands during git push operations against local, file, or attacker-influenced receive-pack targets. The clone-side abbreviation handling does not protect the push path. The issue is resolved in version 4.0.0.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an attacker to execute arbitrary commands on the system running git-js by manipulating git push arguments. This can lead to full compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the affected system. The CVSS 3.1 score is 8.1 (High), reflecting network attack vector, high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability, and requiring no privileges or user interaction but high attack complexity.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade to steveukx git-js version 4.0.0 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigations are specified. Patch status is confirmed fixed in 4.0.0.
