Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Elastic
Product: Elasticsearch

Description

Memory Allocation with Excessive Size Value (CWE-789) in Elasticsearch can lead to denial of service via Excessive Allocation (CAPEC-130). An authenticated user with connector management privileges could cause the cluster to allocate an uncontrolled amount of memory when connector resources with an excessively large `description` field are created and subsequently accessed, exhausting available heap memory and crashing the affected node.

Technical Analysis

This vulnerability (CVE-2026-103005) in Elasticsearch is a CWE-789 issue where memory allocation with an excessive size value can be triggered by an authenticated user with connector management privileges. By creating and accessing connector resources with an excessively large 'description' field, the cluster allocates an uncontrolled amount of memory, leading to heap exhaustion and node crashes. This results in denial of service conditions. The CVSS 3.1 score is 6.5, reflecting a medium severity with network attack vector, low attack complexity, and requiring privileges but no user interaction.

Potential Impact

The impact is denial of service due to heap memory exhaustion and node crashes in the Elasticsearch cluster. There is no confidentiality or integrity impact reported. The attack requires authenticated privileges for connector management, limiting the attack surface to authorized users.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. In the meantime, restrict connector management privileges to trusted users only to reduce risk. Monitor for unusual memory usage patterns related to connector resource creation. No official fix or patch links are provided in the current data.
