CVE-2026-103087: CWE-674 Uncontrolled Recursion in gosub-io gosub-engine
Uncontrolled recursion in the Gosub browser engine (gosub-engine) through 0.1.0 and main before commit 46868b3 allows a remote attacker to cause a Denial of Service (stack exhaustion and application crash) via an SVG document containing an excessive number of deeply nested elements. Because the engine does not limit the nesting depth of processed SVG nodes, rendering such a document overflows the thread stack and terminates the application. The malicious SVG can be embedded through the SRC attribute of an IMG element, and thus exploitation only requires the victim to visit an attacker-controlled web page.
AI Analysis
Technical Summary
The vulnerability CVE-2026-103087 in gosub-engine arises from uncontrolled recursion due to lack of limits on SVG node nesting depth. This leads to stack exhaustion and application termination when processing maliciously crafted SVG documents with excessive nesting. The attack vector is via the SRC attribute of an IMG element, enabling remote denial of service without privileges or user interaction beyond visiting a page. The affected versions include 0.1.0 and main before commit 46868b3. The CVSS 4.0 score is 7.1, indicating high severity.
Potential Impact
Successful exploitation results in denial of service by crashing the application through stack exhaustion. This disrupts availability of the gosub-engine rendering process. No evidence of code execution, data disclosure, or privilege escalation is indicated. The attack requires only that a user visits a malicious web page embedding the crafted SVG.
Mitigation Recommendations
No official patch or remediation information is provided. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, users should avoid loading untrusted SVG content in gosub-engine-based applications.
