Published: 10/01/2026 (10/01/2026, 10:41:59 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: n8n-io
Product: n8n

Description

n8n versions before 1.123.80, from 2.0.0 before 2.39.6, and from 2.40.0 before 2.40.1 contain a path traversal vulnerability in signed resume URL generation for Send-and-Wait approvals. Attackers with workflow creation permissions can mint valid approval URLs for gates in projects they cannot access by exploiting unresolved traversal sequences in caller-controlled node IDs, enabling cross-project approval forgery.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-103254 is a path traversal vulnerability in n8n's signed resume URL generation mechanism for Send-and-Wait approvals. The vulnerability arises because unresolved traversal sequences in caller-controlled node IDs allow an attacker with workflow creation permissions to craft valid approval URLs for gates in unauthorized projects. This enables cross-project approval forgery, potentially bypassing intended access controls. The affected versions are n8n before 1.123.80, from 2.0.0 before 2.39.6, and from 2.40.0 before 2.40.1.

Potential Impact

An attacker with workflow creation permissions can forge approval URLs for projects they should not access, potentially allowing unauthorized approval actions across projects. This could lead to unauthorized workflow executions or approvals, undermining project isolation and approval integrity.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in n8n versions 1.123.80, 2.39.6, and 2.40.1 and later. Users should upgrade to these versions or later to remediate this vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are indicated.
