Published: 10/19/2026 (10/19/2026, 06:46:13 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Product: Coinbase Commerce Payment Gateway for WooCommerce

Description

The Coinbase Commerce Payment Gateway for WooCommerce WordPress plugin through 1.4.1 does not verify the authenticity of incoming payment webhook notifications, because the shared secret used to validate the request signature is empty by default and nothing rejects an unconfigured secret, allowing unauthenticated attackers to forge notifications that mark arbitrary orders as paid or cancel already-paid orders.

Technical Analysis

The Coinbase Commerce Payment Gateway for WooCommerce plugin versions up to 1.4.1 suffer from insufficient verification of data authenticity (CWE-345). Specifically, the shared secret used to validate webhook request signatures is empty by default, and the plugin does not reject this unconfigured state. Consequently, attackers can send forged webhook notifications to manipulate order statuses, such as marking unpaid orders as paid or cancelling orders that have already been paid.

Potential Impact

An attacker can forge payment webhook notifications without authentication, leading to integrity issues in order processing. This can result in financial discrepancies, such as orders being marked as paid without actual payment or legitimate paid orders being cancelled. There is no impact on confidentiality or availability according to the CVSS vector.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, users should ensure the shared secret for webhook signature validation is properly configured and not left empty. Monitoring and validating webhook configurations can help mitigate exploitation risks.
