Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-103694 is an improper privilege management vulnerability (CWE-269) in the Mobile builder WordPress plugin through version 1.4.2. The plugin does not properly restrict which user meta keys can be updated by logged-in users through a REST API endpoint. This allows any authenticated user, including those with self-registered accounts, to modify their user meta data to grant themselves the administrator role, effectively escalating their privileges within the WordPress site.

Potential Impact

An attacker with a self-registered account can escalate their privileges to administrator, gaining full control over the affected WordPress site. This can lead to unauthorized access, site defacement, data theft, or further compromise of the hosting environment.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict user registration or disable the vulnerable REST route if possible. Monitor for updates from the plugin vendor and apply patches promptly once released.
