Technical Analysis
CVE-2026-103842 is an out-of-bounds read vulnerability in Adobe Substance 3D Stager that occurs during parsing of specially crafted files. This vulnerability can lead to reading memory beyond allocated bounds, which may be leveraged by an attacker to execute arbitrary code in the context of the current user. Exploitation requires that the victim opens a malicious file. The affected versions are from 0 through 3.1.8 inclusive. The CVSS v3.1 base score is 7.8, indicating high severity with attack vector local, low attack complexity, no privileges required, user interaction required, and high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
Potential Impact
Successful exploitation can result in arbitrary code execution with the privileges of the current user, potentially compromising confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the affected system. However, exploitation requires user interaction by opening a malicious file, limiting the attack vector to local or user-initiated scenarios.
