Users should disable open registration and/or social-login providers until a fix is released. Monitor the vendor's advisory channels for updates and apply any official patches once available. Restrict access to the vulnerable AJAX endpoint if possible.

Description

The WPJAM Basic WordPress plugin versions up to and including 7.1 contain a privilege escalation vulnerability. An unauthenticated attacker can exploit the signup AJAX endpoint to create a new user with an arbitrary role, including Administrator, by manipulating the role parameter in the signup data. This occurs because the plugin merges attacker-supplied data without proper privilege checks, allowing escalation from no privileges to full administrative control.
