Technical Analysis

This vulnerability in sssd of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 involves an out-of-bounds read triggered by a local user submitting a malformed passkey authentication token missing null terminators. The authentication service reads beyond the allocated memory buffer, causing the process to crash and resulting in denial of service by disrupting authentication services. The CVSS 3.1 vector indicates local attack vector, low complexity, low privileges required, no user interaction, unchanged scope, no confidentiality or integrity impact, and high availability impact.

Potential Impact

A local attacker can cause a denial of service by crashing the authentication service, disrupting authentication on the affected system. There is no impact on confidentiality or integrity, only availability is affected.
