Description

CVE-2026-104034 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Kerberos Credential Manager (KCM) responder component of SSSD on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10. It occurs during Kerberos ticket-granting ticket (TGT) renewal when a deferred callback accesses memory that has already been freed. An authenticated local user with a renewable Kerberos ticket can trigger this flaw, causing the KCM responder service to crash and resulting in a denial of service (DoS).

Technical Analysis

This vulnerability involves a use-after-free condition in the KCM responder of SSSD during Kerberos TGT renewal. Specifically, a deferred callback accesses memory that has been released, leading to a crash of the KCM responder service. Exploitation requires local authentication and a renewable Kerberos ticket on systems configured with KCM renewal. The impact is limited to denial of service due to service crash.

Potential Impact

An authenticated local user with a renewable Kerberos ticket can cause the KCM responder service to crash, resulting in denial of service. There is no impact on confidentiality or integrity. The vulnerability does not allow privilege escalation or remote code execution.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the Red Hat advisory at https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-104034 for current remediation guidance. Until a patch is available, consider restricting local user access to systems with KCM renewal configured to reduce risk.
