Vendor/Project: Red Hat
Product: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10

Description

CVE-2026-104035 is a vulnerability in the Kerberos Credential Manager (KCM) responder component of SSSD on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10. A local user can cause a denial of service by repeatedly storing and destroying credentials, which leads to memory exhaustion as cached objects are not properly released. This results in the service becoming unresponsive due to continuous memory growth.

Technical Analysis

This vulnerability involves a failure in the Kerberos Credential Manager (KCM) responder within SSSD on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10. When a local user maintains a persistent connection and repeatedly stores and destroys credentials, the service does not release cached memory objects after credential removal. This causes memory consumption to grow continuously, eventually exhausting available memory and causing a denial of service condition.

Potential Impact

The impact is a denial of service (DoS) condition caused by memory exhaustion in the SSSD service. This can render the service unresponsive, potentially affecting system authentication processes that rely on SSSD and Kerberos credentials. There is no confidentiality or integrity impact reported.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory at https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-104035 for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, consider limiting local user access to prevent exploitation of this vulnerability.
